SERGEANTS Lamy and Wiggin took another crack at talking to friends who had been in Ericâs circle. They interviewed Mark Hoevler and his parents. Mark said he had no knowledge of Eric Windhurst having been involved in any kind of crime. His parents said they resented being contacted by Lisa Brown and the media asking for information on a crime they knew nothing about. Mark also said the rumors about Eric had been around since high school and were regarded by most people as ridiculous.
Matt Quinn told Lamy and Wiggin he was upset that Lisa Brown had misrepresented herself to him and his mother, claiming to be doing a story on high school reunions. Lamy told Quinn his name had appeared in a letter as part of a cover-up. The young man dismissed it, saying he had no information about any crime and that he was willing to take a polygraph test if he had to.
Eric Prescott also said that the rumors about Eric Windhurst from high school were ridiculous. Prescott prided himself as currently being a college student and, as if extolling Eric Windhurstâs innocence by extension, told the cops, âIâm not the type who would hang out with criminals.â
Craig Metzger agreed that tales of Ericâs crime had been circulating since high school, but no one believed a word of them. Metzger said that after high school, heâd moved to Colorado, and eventually so had Eric. Theyâd lived together and became ski bums. But, he said, they were no longer very close, having had a falling-out over stealing each otherâs girlfriends.
